The land-based commercial casinos are the Del Lago Resort & Casino, Casino in Tyre, Seneca County, Jake’s 58 Hotel & Casino in Islandia, the Rivers Casino & Resort in Schenectady, Tioga Downs in Nichols, Tioga & the World Catskills. Today, the state has four commercial casinos in upstate New York.

Today, commercial casinos generate more revenue than NY’s tribal gambling locations and the average New Yorker spends about $130 per/year per adult at casinos. The decision was made to help boost the state’s economy which had been experiencing sluggish growth in the years leading up to the decision.

This all changed in 2013 when the state agreed to legalize Las Vegas-style casinos, which had up until this point been constrained to Native American lands. The state’s historic gambling laws have placed lots of restrictions on casino gambling. Until recently, however, the state of NY has not permitted commercial gaming. The Casino will remain fully operational during the entirety of the construction project with limited construction disruption.The traditional casino is a commercial enterprise. Resorts World Casino New York City is the only casino in New York City, attracting approximately 10 million guests annually while generating over $2 billion for the State’s education system since opening in 2011. The project supports 1,000 construction jobs. In addition, there will be an extension of the existing gaming including up to 800 new electronic video games. The expansion will include several new food and beverage venues, conference and meeting rooms, a high-tech fitness center and additional retail space. The nearly 500,000 square foot expansion consists of a ten-story, 400 room four-star hotel, with five-star suites with a new two-story grand entrance. Plaza Construction is the construction manager for the Phase I expansion of the Resorts World Casino New York City located at the Aqueduct Racetrack in Jamaica, Queens.
